Mihai UDRESCU

Mihai UDRESCU has received his PhD in Computer Engineering from “Politehnica” University of Timisoara in November 2005 with Magna Cum Laude honors. His thesis, entitled “Quantum Circuits Engineering: Efficient Simulation and Reconfigurable Quantum Hardware” has been accepted and presented at the SIGDA PhD Forum at the 42nd Design Automation Conference.

Dr. Udrescu is currently holding an Assistant Professor position at the Computer Science and Engineering Department within the same university.

Dr. Udrescu's teaching activity at the Computer Engineering Department of the “Politehnica” University of Timisoara includes the “Reliability of Computer Systems” course (undergraduate, final year) and project activity related to the “Computer Architecture” and “Computer Organization” undergraduate courses.

Dr. Udrescu's research interests are: Quantum Computing, Computer Aided Design, Design Automation, Computer Reliability and Testing, Bio-Inspired Hardware. His published papers are in the field of emerging computing technologies: quantum computing and bio-inspired hardware. The main drive of Dr. Udrescu's research is to bridge the gap between quantum circuit design, and the computer-aided techniques from classical hardware design. As an acknowledgement, his work in the field of quantum circuit simulation was cited in Lee Spector's book “Automated Quantum Computer Programming. A Genetic Programming Approach”, in Simon Gay's survey article “Quantum Programming Languages: Survey and Bibliography” and in the bulletin of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science EATCS.

Dr. Udrescu is also involved in other research aspects of quantum computation, as reliability of quantum computation and quantum genetic algorithms; recently he has sketched the guidelines for the QUantum ERror Injection Simulation Tool (QUERIST), a project which aims at assessing the reliability of quantum circuits. At the same time, he is involved in research regarding fault-tolerance issues within the Embryonics project.

Dr. Udrescu has served as reviewer for the CONTI 2004, IEEE/ACM MASCOTS 2005, ACM Computing Frontiers 2006 conferences, and for the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation. Also, he has chaired the Resource-Aware Computing session at the 3rd ACM Computing Frontiers Conference 2006. Dr. Udrescu is a member of the ACM and IEEE.
